Project Introduction

The Mass Transit Railway (MTR) is the rapid transit railway system in Hong Kong that includes 218.2 km (135.6 mi) of rail with 155 stations. The MTR system is the most popular transport option in Hong Kong, with over five million trips made in an average weekday. Recently, Lantech industrial switches are adopted for information TV system on MTR’s rolling stocks. The project covers 4 of MTR’s major routes, including Island Line, Kwun Tong Line, Tsuen Wan Line, and Tseung Kwan O Line.

The project plans to upgrade the information TV system of 22 trains, while each train consists of 8 train cars. Currently the MTR adopted 45 pieces Lantech IES-2008B industrial managed switches, and will apply to all 22 trains eventually. Each car has 4 information TVs, connected with 1 Lantech IES-2008B. All the information TVs are linked and controlled by driver’s cab. Passengers are able to watch the news, advertisements, and station information via these displays. The built-in IGMP protocol let all the video and audio data can be transmitted without lag or interruption. With Lantech switches, setup a high-capacity Ethernet network for such application is effortless. Our products also passed free-fall, shock, and vibration test that ensure the reliability of network connections
